Testimonials of Hate

English

It is well known by many people around the world that politics bring out discussions and problematic situations due to the creation of laws that sometimes are not fair and justified with solid arguments. There is always a necessity to blame someone when a conflict arises, and also the truth can be manipulated by the power holders in their favor. Nowadays, there is a situation related to the recent presidential elections in the United States and reflected through a testimonial of a lady in Michigan justifying her vote. And also, the case of Gloria Greggory, the guard’s wife of Nelson Mandela, exemplifies both of these negative political positions.

Testimonial #1

On October of 2016, the presidential elections of the United States took place, having as candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. American citizens had no idea of who was going to win the elections because the number of people in favor of each one of them was very similar. However, on November 8th, the news of Donald Trump elected as the president of the United States appeared, causing questions and doubts in everyone around the world. So, www.humansofnewyork.com started asking American citizens to justify their votes. One of them was a testimonial given by a lady in Michigan who justified her vote for Donald Trump, she said, “Don’t get me wrong, I want everyone to get along. And I don’t want to sound racist. But they are coming into our country. If you ask me, that makes them racist. There is something going on with the Muslims and Latinos. There is a lot we don’t know about. They have a game plan. They want my grandchildren to work for them. They want all the business. I’m hoping he can do something about it. We need someone to say no.” As you can see, power holders can change anything in their favor and there is always the necessity to blame someone or in other words, to find a joker, when she talked about Muslims and Latinos.

Between the years 1955 and 1994, the Apartheid occurred, which means “segregation” and basically was a separation of whites and blacks. There is a movie called “Goodbye Bafana” based on the apartheid and in Nelson Mandela’s life in prison. The next is a testimonial taken from the script of the movie in the scene in which Gloria Greggory tries to justify the apartheid system to her husband: “They don’t want to share this country with us. They hate us! If they had it their way, they’d drive every single person into the sea. They’d leave us with nothing. Not even the clothes on our backs.” Like in testimonial #1, the power holders tend to hide the truth and deceive people because on the movie, Africa had done a treaty, but they kept it and it was prohibited, only authorized personnel could read it. The treaty was based on equality and harmony between blacks and whites. The necessity to blame someone is also seen. Whites thought black people where bad thanks to the information given by the power holders. Later in the movie, people realized, including Gloria, that blacks had no negative intention towards them.

Since politics may continue working like this, it is our duty to state our position and avoid others’ influence in our way of thinking. Only thoughtful and solid reasons will lead us to reach a harmonic balance of power.
